One person was reportedly killed in an explosion in the Naya Bazar area in Old Delhi while several people were injured.
A senior police officer said the cause of the explosion was yet to be ascertained. Forensic teams and officers from the Special Cell are on the spot and collecting samples. However, according to NDTV, the likely cause of the explosion is reportedly a cylinder blast in the wholesale market in Delhi.
The blast took place at around 11 am in the bustling commercial area with and narrow lanes and closely packed structures, according to Times Now. The TV channel also reported that some fire crackers and explosive material were also found at the spot.
Senior Police officials, fire tenders and ambulance have reached the spot and rescue operations are underway. As a precautionary measure, anti-terror squad was also called in. Further details are awaited. Delhi Police personnel have been maintaining a tight vigil in view of the festive season.
