Italian motorcycle manufacturer, Moto Guzzi which is a part of the Piaggio Group, has introduced the V9 and MGX 21 bikes in India. The V9 would be available in two trims, Bobber and Roamer and both are priced at Rs 13.60 lakh, ex-showroom Pune.
The larger 1,400 cc MGX 21 would cost Rs 27.78 lakh, ex-showroom Pune. On the occasion, Stefano Pelle, Managing Director and CEO Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited said, “It is a proud moment for us at the Piaggio Group as we bring to India these exclusive bikes from Moto Guzzi. These bikes are an epitome of Italian heritage and their launch in India coincides with the 95th anniversary of the brand. These bikes from Moto Guzzi offer a unique way of looking at a bike trip – one filled with adventure, discovery and freedom.”
The V9 Bobber and Roamer are different only in terms of some design changes. That said, the powertrain, which is an 853 cc L-twin motor, remains the same. It generates 55hp of power at 6,250 rpm and 62Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm which is sent to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox.
Cooling is courtesy an air and oil system which comprises of piston-cooling jets and an oil radiator between the downtubes. Braking is taken care by a 320mm Brembo opposed two-piston calipers at the front and 260mm unit at the rear, both made of stainless steel. In terms of safety, the middle-weight cruiser comes with ABS, Adjustable Traction Control and an immobiliser. For added rider convenience, the V9 also has a USB.
The larger MGX 21 comes with a 1,400cc motor that generates 91hp at 6,500 rpm and 120Nm at 2,750 rpm. Like the V9 Bobber and Roamer, power to the rear wheel is sent via a 6-speed transmission with a shaft-type drive instead of the conventional chain or belt drive. The MGX 21 or conspicuously known as the Flying Fortress has ABS, Adjustable Traction Control and Ride-by-Wire throttle for added safety. In terms of convenience, the MGX 21 has Bluetooth connectivity in the audio system, cruise control and different riding modes, something which is expected in a litre-class tourer motorcycle.
In India, both bikes would go up against their respective rivals. The V9 Range would lock horns with the likes of Harley Davidson’s Iron 883 and the MGX 21 would compete against the Fat Boy.
