An avoidable tragedy

An inquiry by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (Northern Region) has been ordered by Suresh Prabhu, Railway Minister on the train derailment near Kanpur which has killed over 120 people on Sunday. He has visited the accident site and also announced compensation. The Prime Minister’s Office has also announced more compensation.


Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has ordered an inquiry by the Commissioner, Railway Safety, (Northern Region) into the train derailment near Kanpur that killed over 120 people early on Sunday, even as he rushed to the spot and the government announced compensation.

Suresh Prabhu also declared food, tea and water to be provided to the injured and their relatives without any cost. A special train from Kanpur to Patna has also being arranged for the passengers.
