14th Case of Polio Reported in Pakistan


An eight-month-old baby in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan’s North Waziristan district has been diagnosed with polio, the 14th confirmed case in the country so far this year.

The Health Ministry gave this information on Thursday. The news agency Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying that the victim had started paralysis on June 30.

Of All the 14 Cases, There Are 13 Cases in North Waziristan Province Alone

The ministry said the National Emergency Operations Centers of Afghanistan and Pakistan are continuing efforts to coordinate cross-border to prevent transmission of the virus.

The two countries conducted two polio campaigns in May and June and are ensuring vaccination of all ages at international borders as well as vaccination of children below 10 years of age at all major transit points.
