On Wednesday, parts of Srinagar shut down spontaneously, and protests were reported across several areas, with people shouting slogans and some even conflicting with security forces, before top Kashmiri separatist and JKLF chairman Yasin Malik was sentenced to life in prison for terrorism and receiving payments funnelled through Pakistan for terrorist activities in J&K by an NIA court in Delhi.

Security forces stopped some demonstrators from marching towards Maisuma Chowk on their way to Lal Chawk. As police fired tear gas shells to disperse demonstrators who reportedly threw stones at the officers, smoke could be seen on the road. There were no injuries reported.
