A 16-year-old boy lost Rs 36 lakhs while playing online games on his mobile phone. The boy, a resident of Hyderabad’s Amberpet area, used his mother’s bank accounts to pay for online games.
According to the Cyber Crime Wing of Hyderabad Police, the boy downloaded the Free Fire gaming app on his grandfather’s mobile phone.
He used Rs 1,500 initially and later Rs 10,000 from his mother’s bank account to play the game.
As soon as he got addicted to sports, he started spending huge sums of money without the knowledge of the family members.
The son of the deceased police officer, a class 11 student, continued to pay between Rs 1.45 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.
When her mother went to State Bank of India (SBI) to withdraw money, she was shocked to learn that there was no money left in the account.
A total of Rs 27 lakh was spent from the account. He then checked his account in HDFC Bank and found Rs 9 lakh missing.
The woman reached the cybercrime police station. She told the police that it was her late husband’s earnings.
After his death, the financial benefits received by the family were also deposited in both the bank accounts.
