Death Toll From Spurious Liquor Reached 9 in Bihar, 17 People Lost Their Eyesight


In Bihar’s Saran district, the death toll reached 9 and 17 people lost their eyesight on Friday due to the spurious liquor scandal. The victims are residents of the villages of Maker and Bheldi police station areas of Saran district.

Most of the victims had bought spurious liquor from Dhanuka Toli village. After this, on Wednesday night, he consumed alcohol at different places and after that his health deteriorated.

Saran District Magistrate Rajesh Meena has also confirmed the incident. He said that, in the preliminary investigation, it has been found that he had consumed spurious liquor.

The other deceased have been identified as Om Nath Mahato, Chandeshwar Mahato, Sakaldeep Mahato, Dhaniram Mahato, Rajnath Mahato and two others. They died between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.

As soon as the information about the incident of spurious liquor in the area was received, the SHO and Zonal Officers of Maker, Bheldi and Amnaur along with forensic experts reached the houses of the victims. They collected samples and also recorded statements of family members of the deceased and critically ill persons.

Police said that 17 people have lost their eyesight and are fighting for their lives in hospitals.

There is a prohibition in Bihar where liquor has been banned since April 2016.
