Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk have disclosed that Indian-origin Ashok Elluswamy was the first employee hired for his electric automobile company’s Autopilot team.
Before hooking with Tesla, Ashok Elluswamy was associated with Volkswagen Electronic Research Lab and WABCO Vehicle Control System.
“Ashok was the first person recruited from my tweet saying that Tesla is starting an Autopilot team!” Mr. Musk, who has been using social media to recruit people, said in a tweet in reply to a video on his interview.
He said that Ashok is the head of Autopilot engineering.
“Andrej is director of AI; People often give me too much credit and give Andrej too much credit. The Tesla Autopilot AI team is extremely talented. Some of the smartest people in the world,” Mr. Musk ascertained.
Before entering Tesla, Mr. Elluswamy was linked with Volkswagen Electronic Research Lab and WABCO Vehicle Control System.
He carries a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the College of Engineering Guindy, Chennai, and Robotics System Development from Carnegie Mellon University for a Master’s degree.
Mr. Musk newly tweeted that Tesla is looking for hardcore Artificial Intelligence (AI) engineers who care about solving concerns that directly affect people’s lives in a meaningful manner.
The job application was easy, with interested candidates being asked to fill fields like name, email, hardware, exceptional work done in software, or AI and drop their overview in the PDF format.
According to Forbes, Mr. Musk is the wealthiest person globally, with a net worth of approximately $282 billion, most of his wealth in Tesla stock.

Musk was born to a Canadian mother and a South African father and grown in Pretoria, South Africa. He shortly studied at the University of Pretoria before proceeding to Canada at age 17 to evade conscription. He was registered at Queen’s University and transferred to the University of Pennsylvania two years later.
He received a bachelor’s degree in economics and physics, then moved to California in 1995 to attend Stanford University. Instead, he determined to pursue a business career, co-founding the web software company Zip2 with his brother Kimbal. Compaq earned the startup $307 million in 1999. The same year, Musk co-founded online bank X.com, which merged with Confinity in 2000 to form PayPal. eBay purchased the business in 2002 for $1.5 billion.
