First Case of Monkeypox Found in Hungary


The first case of monkeypox has been reported in the European country of Hungary. Health officials confirmed a 38-year-old man was infected with monkeypox.

The disease lasts for two to four weeks, Xinhua news agency is quoted as saying. Patients with immune system related diseases and pregnant women spread more rapidly.

Chief Medical Officer Cecilia Mueller told a news conference on Tuesday that the infected have to be isolated during treatment.

He said that we need to pay attention to these matters. There is a need to be especially aware of the symptoms. If anyone suspects illness, please contact a doctor.

Cases of monkeypox were mainly seen in Central and West Africa. It has been increasingly recognized in non-pandemic countries.

According to the World Health Organization, 257 cases have been confirmed in 23 countries. While 120 cases are suspected.
