First Case of Omicron Sub-Variant Confirmed in Pakistan

The National Institutes of Health in Pakistan has confirmed the first case of a subvariant of Omicron. The NIH said on Twitter that it had confirmed Omicron’s subvariant ba.2.12.1 in genome sequencing.

The NIH has advised people to get the corona vaccine and asked those who want to take a booster dose to take it.

Director General of Health, Rana Muhammad Safdar told Geo TV that the person who returned from Qatar has been confirmed to be infected with Omicron’s sub-variant ba.2.12.1.

According to NIH data released on Monday, 64 new cases of corona infection have been reported in Pakistan. The positivity rate here is 0.49 percent. No corona infected has died during the last 24 hours.

No restrictions related to corona are in force in Pakistan from March 31.
