Hyundai Ranks third in global vehicle sales in the first half of 2022

South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group on Monday said it ranked third globally on growth in sales of high-end models despite a lack of Automotive chips.

According to sales data, Hyundai Motor, its independent Genesis brand and Hyundai’s minor subsidiary Kia Corp sold a total of 32.99 lakh vehicles in the global markets in the January-June period followed by Toyota Motor Group’s 51.38 lakh units and Volkswagen Group’s 40.06 lakh units. .

In the first six months, sales growth of the Genesis model, the all-electric Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the pure electric Kia EV6 propelled the Korean carmaker’s sales rankings forward, Yonhap news agency reported.

The Korean automaker’s first-half sales fell 5.1 percent from a year earlier, bettering those of its global competitors.

Toyota Group’s sales declined 6 percent, Volkswagen Group’s by 14 percent, Stellantis sales 16 percent and General Motors sales fell 19 percent.

Stellantis is a 50:50 joint venture established through the merger of American carmaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and French automaker PSA Group.

Hyundai Motor last week said it would spend $424 million to build an artificial intelligence (AI) research center in the US to expand its lead in robotics technology.
