Emphasizing on domestic manufacturing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the number of mobile ring units manufacturing in the country has increased from 2 to over 200.
Addressing an event of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) through video conferencing, Modi said that in the last eight years, new energy has been infused in the telecom sector.
He said, emphasis was laid on manufacturing of mobile phones to make mobile phones available to poor families. As a result, mobile manufacturing Ring units increased from 2 to over 200.
The Prime Minister said, the country has moved from 3G to 4G, now 5G and 6G, out of the gloom, desperation, corruption and policy paralysis of the 2G era.
According to the latest study by Deloitte, India will have 1 billion mobile subscribers by 2026, which will boost smartphone sales in rural areas.
India had 1.2 billion mobile subscribers in 2021, of which around 750 million are smartphone users.
Due to domestic manufacturing, the country is set to become the second largest smartphone maker in the next five years.
According to the report, the demand for smartphones is expected to increase due to the Internet.
