Indian Women’s Hockey Team Lost 1-3 to England

The Indian women’s hockey team lost 1-3 to England in a Pool A round-robin match at the 2022 Commonwealth Games here on Tuesday. The Indian team, which had also lost to England in the bronze medal match of the Olympic Games, lost the opening goal and went 0-3 before scoring a goal in the fourth quarter.

Gisele Ainsley (3′), Tess Howard (40′), Hannah Martin (53′) held the lead for England, while Vandana Katariya (60′) was the only scorer for India.

The loss means India are third in the group behind England (9 points) and Canada (6), with the same number of points as Canada but third on goal difference.

India had a chance when Salima Tete scored a brilliant run in the right flank but she could not find the back of the net. In the 12th minute, Salima bowled a brilliant delivery and Vandana Katariya tried to put it in the goal, but English goalkeeper Maddie Hinch made a brilliant defense.

Monica took a shot in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but unfortunately the ball went over the crossbar. The Indian team scored another goal in the 20th minute, but the English defense unit held on and kept their opponents away.

Hannah Martin converted a penalty corner in the 53rd minute to help England lead 3–0. In the final minute of the match, India received a penalty corner and Vandana Katariya tapped the ball into the goal to ensure that England did not leave the field with a clean sheet.
