Two-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan advanced to the women’s singles quarter-finals by defeating He Bingjiao of China at the Japan Open badminton tournament here on Thursday. Yamaguchi claimed the title when it was last held in 2019. She defeated the Chinese player 18-21, 21-13, 21-12.

The Japanese star is expected to meet Chen in the semi-finals if they both win their next matches.

Yamaguchi will next face Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong and Chen will face Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Xinhua reports.
