Maharashtra Eknath Shinde Takes Oath As Chief Minister and Devendra Fadnavis As Deputy Chief Minister

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari administered the oath of office to Eknath Sambhaji Shinde as the 20th Chief Minister of the state on Thursday evening. Koshyari administered the oath of office to Devendra Fadnavis as the Deputy Chief Minister.

With this, the political turmoil that has been going on in the state for the last 10 days also came to an end.

The swearing-in ceremony took place a day after former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray resigned from his post in the wake of a major rebellion among Shiv Sena MLAs.

Most of the Shiv Sena leaders rebelled, due to which the government was in trouble and finally the 31-month-old Maha Vikas Aghadi government collapsed.

Following the fast-paced developments, the BJP decided to extend outside support to the minority government led by Shinde.

Later, BJP President J. Following instructions from top party officials like P. Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former two-time CM Fadnavis to finally join the new regime as No. 2 (Deputy CM). Agreed.

According to party sources, the two-member cabinet will be expanded soon with the induction of more MLAs from the Shinde group of ministers of Shiv Sena and BJP.
