As remote working became popular during the pandemic, the number of UK citizens seeking medical help for the problem has nearly doubled, the Daily Mail reports.
According to experts, this culture has led some casual porn viewers to develop addictions and make those who already had problems worse.
Porn addiction is a type of sex addiction in which users develop an addiction to the pleasurable sensation or sexual activity.
The Laurel Center in London, the UK’s largest sex and porn addiction clinic, said it is now treating some people who watch porn for up to 14 hours a day.
Paula Hall, the center’s clinical director, said WFH means people are spending more alone time in front of their computers than ever before.
“It means you have more opportunity, you don’t have to wait until you get home at night, you can be more impulsive during the day,” he said.
The report said that the Laurel Center saw around 750 porn addicts in the first six months of 2022 alone, compared to 950 throughout 2019.
Hall Noted That Patients Coming to the Clinic This Year Required More Intensive Treatment
According to the report, physicians in a London clinic now spend around 600 hours a month helping people with porn addiction, compared to just 360 hours per month in 2019.
