Controversial writer Salman Rushdie was stabbed to death while attending an event in New York. In Rushdie’s fourth book, The Satanic Verses, he was threatened with death for blasphemy.

The Indian-born Rushdie, 75, was speaking at an event at the Chautauqua Institution when a man ran onto the stage and punched or stabbed him and his interlocutor, the BBC reported citing eyewitnesses.
According to reports, amidst the panic of the audience, some people ran to the stage and managed to stop the attacker, while others rushed to the help of the writer, who had fallen on the stage.
