Shakib Corona Infected, out of Test Against Sri Lanka

Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was on Tuesday ruled out of the first match of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka after he tested positive for coronavirus.

Shakib, 35, had returned from the USA on Monday and was expected to join the Bangladesh squad in Chittagong on Tuesday.

However, the all-rounder has been advised to remain in isolation after giving positive reports twice.

Under the Kovid-19 protocol, he will have to remain in isolation for the next five days.

“Shakib has tested positive and will not be available for the initial Test against Sri Lanka,” BCB’s Cricket Operations President Jalal Younis told Cricbuzz.

Shakib last played a Test, when Bangladesh faced Pakistan at Mirpur in December 2021. He was expected to return to the longer format in the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.

Shakib missed the New Zealand Test series due to family reasons, then returned from South Africa for personal reasons after playing the ODI series.
