Sushmita Sen to play transgender activist Shri Gauri Sawant in ‘Taali’

Bollywood actress and former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen is all set to play the role of transgender activist Shri Gauri Sawant in her upcoming film ‘Taali – Bajaungi nahi, bajwaungi’.

The Actress Released the First Look of the Film Through Her Instagram

She wrote in the caption, “Clap! (I won’t clap but will make others do so) Hashtag-Shri Gauri Sawant for a first look. Of nothing more proud than portraying this handsome man and bringing his story to the world.” With everyone’s right to life, to live it with dignity! I love you guys.”

Talking about the film, she said, “(It) is a story of struggle, resilience and indomitable strength, that’s for you Shri Gauri Sawant. Nothing makes me more proud to bring you this journey full of challenges. “

The actress called the project a ‘special’ for herself, “It’s special for so many reasons. It’s just the beginning, stay tuned to know more.”

Born as Ganesh and raised in Pune, Shri Gauri Sawant is a transgender activist from Mumbai. She was one of the petitioners to the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), filed in 2013, in which the Supreme Court recognized transgender as a third gender with the final ruling in 2014.

The biopic is produced by Arjun Singh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar, directed by National Award winning director Ravi Jadhav, and produced by Arjun Singh Baran, Kartk D Nishandar and Afeefa Nadiadwala.
