Tamil Nadu Victim and Child Will Have DNA Test to Catch the Rapist


Coimbatore Rural District Police in Tamil Nadu has registered a case against unidentified persons for raping, sexually assaulting and getting pregnant a differently-abled (PWD) woman.

Police sources said that the woman had given birth to the child twice and the police are ascertaining whether the woman was raped by one person or that more people were involved.

A case has been registered under section 376(2)(1) and section 92(b) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act. The DNA test of the woman and her children will be done to nab the culprit.

According to the information, the 29-year-old woman lived with her father in Thondamathur. The woman gave birth to a child in 2020, which was handed over to the social welfare department.

Police said the 64-year-old father and his daughter did not complain about the sexual harassment and shifted to Ranga Nagar near Perur in Coimbatore rural area.

The woman again gave birth to a baby girl in March 2022. The local people informed the District Collector (DM) about this. The DM immediately directed the Social Welfare Department to investigate.

The social welfare officer lodged a written complaint of rape and sexual abuse with the woman and registered a case under section 376(2)(1) and section 92(b) of the IPC.

Police said that the woman was not ready to file a complaint, the reason behind this could be the perpetrator from among the known people.
