The Scale of China’s Civil Aviation Transport is Increasing Rapidly

The scale of China’s civil aviation transportation has been growing rapidly in recent years, with the passenger turnover of civil aviation accounting for 33.1 percent of the national comprehensive transportation system.

China has signed bilateral air transport agreements with 128 countries and territories and opened 895 international routes. In the recent 10 years, China has built or relocated a total of 82 transport airports.

The total number of airports in the country has now reached 250, the total design capacity of the airports exceeds 1.4 billion passengers, more than 3 thousand new airports have been added, and the total number of routes has reached 5,581.

The aviation network covers 88 percent of the country’s population and 93% of the total economic output. The ratio of passenger traffic to airports in central and western China increased from 36.5 percent in 2012 to 45.2 percent in 2021.

47 new transport airports have been built in poverty alleviation areas, and the coverage rate of air services to the population in poverty alleviation areas has reached 83.6 percent.
