We Are An Entertainment Platform, Not A Social Network TikTok


TikTok has clarified that it is not interested in copying Facebook as it is not a social network but an entertainment platform. This reaction has come because Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, wants to make Facebook and Instagram like TikTok.

TikTok’s President of Global Business Solutions Blake Chandley told CNBC that Facebook is A Social Platform

“They have built all their algorithms based on social graphs. This is their core competency. Ours is not,” Chandley was quoted as saying.

“We are an entertainment platform. The difference is important. It’s a big difference,” he said.

TikTok is owned by China’s ByteDance, as it is gaining popularity among teenagers across the world.

To rival TikTok, Meta-owned Instagram is testing a new full-screen mode and an updated navigation bar for its feed.

The test, which has been rolled out to a “limited number of people,” according to Meta spokesperson Sean Kim, is the platform’s new attempt to compete with TikTok when it comes to social video.

Facebook employees have reportedly been directed by senior executives to change the platform’s algorithms to make it more like its arch-Chinese rival TikTok which is gaining immense popularity among teenagers.

The second directive to employees is that after years of splitting Messenger and Facebook as separate apps, the two will be brought back together, mimicking the messaging functionality of TikTok.

TikTok users are spending more time on the app than ever before.
