Former champion Simona Halep advanced to the semi-finals of Wimbledon 2022 after beating Amanda Anisimova 6-2, 6-4 in a quarter-final match here on Wednesday.
Halep hasn’t set foot on the court at the All-England club since lifting the trophy in 2019, after the 2020 championship was canceled and an injury forced him to withdraw last year.
The Romanian’s return to the site of the major title of his second career has been stellar, as he has so far not lost a set in five matches, having lost just 28 games in 10 sets.
Halep Has Won The Last 21 Sets Played At Wimbledon
In Thursday’s semi-final, she will face Kazakhstan’s No. 17 Elena Rybakina, who registered a three-set win over Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia.
The quarterfinal match began almost identical to the scoreline of the pair’s previous match, which Halep won 6-2, 6-1 on the grass court in Bad Homburg, Germany, last week. After Anisimova started each set, Halep twice won five games straight as the American struggled to find rhythm off the field.
