A natural heater hidden in India’s ‘sacred lotus’ flowers

Researchers have discovered that the sacred lotus flowers, native to India, possess a remarkable ability to generate heat. These flowers maintain an internal temperature ranging from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius, even when external temperatures drop to as low as 10 degrees Celsius. This phenomenon occurs during the blooming phase of the lotus, which lasts for approximately three to four days. The ability to regulate their internal temperature not only aids in the survival of the flowers but also attracts pollinators, enhancing their reproductive success. This intriguing characteristic of the sacred lotus highlights its unique adaptation to environmental changes, and it poses potential implications for botanical studies and climate resilience. As India continues to explore its rich biodiversity, the findings regarding the sacred lotus contribute valuable insights into the ecological and biological wonders found within the country’s flora.
