Assembly Election Dates 2026: Full Schedule for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, Bengal, Puducherry

Election Commission announces assembly poll dates for five states and UTs. Assam, Kerala, Puducherry vote April 9; Tamil Nadu and West Bengal Phase 1 on April 23. All counting on May 4.
The Election Commission of India on Sunday announced the full schedule for assembly elections in four states — Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, and Assam — and the Union Territory of Puducherry. Counting of votes for all five regions will take place on the same day: May 4, 2026.
Assam: Single Phase on April 9
The 126-seat Assam legislative assembly will go to polls in a single phase on April 9, 2026. Counting of votes is scheduled for May 4, with the election process to be completed before May 6.
Kerala: Single Phase on April 9
All 140 seats of the Kerala legislative assembly will also vote on April 9, 2026. Like Assam, the counting is set for May 4, 2026, and the entire process must be wrapped up by May 6.
Puducherry: Single Phase on April 9
The 30-seat Puducherry assembly will go to polls alongside Kerala and Assam on April 9, 2026. Counting will be held on May 4.
Tamil Nadu: Single Phase on April 23
The 234-seat Tamil Nadu assembly election will be held in a single phase on April 23, 2026. The last date for filing nominations is April 6, scrutiny on April 7, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 9. Counting of votes will take place on May 4.
West Bengal: Two Phases
West Bengal, with 294 assembly seats, will be the only state to go to polls in two phases. Phase 1 covering 152 constituencies will be held on April 23, 2026, and Phase 2 covering the remaining 142 seats will take place on April 29, 2026. The gazette notification for Phase 1 is March 30 and for Phase 2 is April 2. Votes will be counted on May 4.
