Iran not going to close Strait of Hormuz, Tehran’s UN Envoy says

Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, has clarified that the country will not obstruct maritime traffic through the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz. This statement comes amid rising tensions in the region, particularly following recent military confrontations involving US and Iranian forces. The Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson emphasized that vessels navigating the strait must coordinate with Iran's navy to ensure safe passage, reflecting Tehran's commitment to maintaining security in the vital shipping corridor, which is pivotal for global oil trade. The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is a key transit route for approximately 20% of the world's oil shipments, making its security of utmost importance to global markets. Iran's assurances aim to alleviate concerns from international shipping entities and underscore Tehran's role as a major player in regional stability, despite ongoing geopolitical tensions with Western nations. This development is particularly significant as it highlights Iran's strategic positioning in the Gulf and its influence over critical maritime routes, which could have far-reaching implications for energy prices and geopolitical relations worldwide.
