Cabinet increases Jal Jeevan Mission outlay by ₹1.51 tn, approves projects to Tamil Nadu, Bengal

In a significant boost for water supply and infrastructure, the Union Cabinet has approved an increase in the budget for the Jal Jeevan Mission by ₹1.51 trillion, bringing the total outlay to ₹8.7 trillion. This initiative aims to enhance access to potable water across rural India, aligning with the government's commitment to improving living standards in underserved areas. Additionally, the Cabinet approved various road and rail projects aimed at enhancing connectivity, which is expected to further stimulate economic growth. Notably, the Madurai airport in Tamil Nadu has been granted international status, which is anticipated to bolster tourism and trade in the region. These developments reflect the government's ongoing efforts to invest in essential infrastructure, ensuring sustainable development and improved quality of life for citizens. The Jal Jeevan Mission, launched in 2019, focuses on providing functional tap water supply to every rural household by 2024, making this budget increase a crucial step toward achieving that goal.
