Income Tax Department Clarifies Faulty Advance Tax e-Campaign Emails for AY 2026-27

The Income Tax Department has clarified that some Advance Tax e-Campaign emails for AY 2026-27 contained inaccurate transaction details. Taxpayers have been asked to ignore the earlier emails and verify their data via the Compliance Portal.
The Income Tax Department has issued an official clarification regarding certain email communications sent to taxpayers under the Advance Tax e-Campaign for Assessment Year (AY) 2026-27. Some taxpayers received emails containing inaccurate details about their reported significant transactions, causing concern and confusion.
What Happened?
As part of its ongoing Advance Tax e-Campaign, the department sent automated emails to taxpayers highlighting financial transactions for review. However, the department has acknowledged that some of these emails contained inaccurate details regarding the 'significant transactions' attributed to certain taxpayers.
What Should Taxpayers Do?
The Income Tax Department has advised taxpayers to:
- Ignore the earlier erroneous email communication related to the Advance Tax e-Campaign until the matter is resolved
- Verify their actual transaction details through the e-Campaign tab on the Compliance Portal, accessible via the e-Filing portal at incometax.gov.in
- Ensure appropriate advance tax compliance based on verified information only
Purpose of the Advance Tax e-Campaign
The department clarified that the e-Campaign communications are intended purely as facilitative reminders to help taxpayers review relevant financial information available on the Compliance Portal. The department is actively working to resolve the technical issue and will send corrected communications in due course.
Taxpayers are advised not to panic upon receiving such emails and to always verify transaction data through the official Compliance Portal before making any advance tax payments.
