Cargo agents seek relief as war leaves export shipments stranded at airports

The Air Cargo Agents Association of India has formally requested the Directorate General of Civil Aviation's Economic Advisor for a waiver on demurrage charges for export shipments that are currently stranded at airports. This situation has arisen due to the ongoing conflict disrupting international flight schedules, resulting in significant delays and cancellations. The cargo agents argue that the accumulation of demurrage fees, which are charged for the prolonged storage of goods, is placing an unnecessary financial burden on exporters. With many shipments unable to leave the country, the association is urging authorities to consider the exceptional circumstances brought about by the war, which have led to logistical challenges and hindered trade operations. This plea highlights the broader impact of geopolitical tensions on India's export sector and emphasizes the need for supportive measures to mitigate the adverse effects faced by businesses in the cargo industry.
