Centre Approves India's First Underwater Road-Rail Twin Tunnel Project Under Brahmaputra For Rs 18,662 crore

The Indian government has approved a groundbreaking infrastructure project, the country's first underwater road-rail twin tunnel beneath the Brahmaputra River, with a budget of Rs 18,662 crore. This ambitious initiative, being developed under the engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) model, will feature a four-lane route designed to improve connectivity across the region. The project is significant not only for India, as it marks the second such underwater tunnel globally, but also for the local economy, as it is expected to facilitate smoother transport, boost trade, and enhance the movement of people. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways emphasized the importance of this project in addressing the increasing traffic demands and fostering regional development. As India continues to invest in innovative infrastructure solutions, this project represents a leap toward modern transportation networks that can withstand geographical challenges and improve overall connectivity in the Northeast region.
