Centre Regulates Natural Gas Supply After Middle East Disruption

In response to recent disruptions in natural gas supply from the Middle East, the Indian government has introduced the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order, 2026. This regulation prioritizes domestic needs by ensuring that piped natural gas supply, compressed natural gas (CNG) for transportation, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for production, and critical pipeline operations receive preferential allocation. The decision aims to enhance energy security and minimize reliance on volatile international markets, particularly amidst geopolitical tensions that could affect gas imports. By focusing on domestic supply, the government seeks to stabilize energy prices and ensure that essential services and industries have uninterrupted access to natural gas. This regulatory shift reflects India’s broader strategy to strengthen its energy infrastructure and reduce vulnerability to external shocks, thereby supporting economic growth and sustainability in the face of global energy challenges.
