Defence reforms paid off in Op Sindoor: PM
In an exclusive interview, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the significant benefits of a decade of defense reforms during Operation Sindoor, emphasizing the importance of modernizing India's defense capabilities to address evolving security challenges. He announced a record allocation of Rs 7.85 lakh crore for the defense sector in the Union Budget for 2026-27, marking a 15% increase from the previous year. Modi reiterated the government's commitment to enhancing the capabilities of the armed forces through modernization and self-reliance, with a focus on utilizing Indian innovation and industry. He noted that 75% of the capital expenditure for the armed forces will be directed towards domestic procurement, which not only bolsters national security but also stimulates job creation and strengthens the industrial base. The Prime Minister also underscored the government's sensitivity towards the welfare of ex-servicemen, as evidenced by a 45% rise in healthcare funding. Overall, Modi portrayed these initiatives as part of an ongoing effort to ensure that India remains prepared for any security challenges, reinforcing the nation's role on the global stage.
