EU designates Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as terrorist organisation

The European Union has officially designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, a move aimed at curbing its influence and activities within the region. This classification will result in the freezing of the IRGC's financial assets located in EU member states, effectively restricting its access to funds. Additionally, EU operators are prohibited from providing any financial resources or economic support to the IRGC. This decision underscores the EU's commitment to countering terrorism and promoting stability in the Middle East, amidst ongoing tensions related to Iran's nuclear program and military engagements in various conflicts. The IRGC, known for its significant role in Iran's military and political strategies, has been implicated in various destabilizing actions across the region, prompting this strong stance from European authorities. The designation is expected to further strain relations between the EU and Iran, which has already been challenged by issues surrounding human rights and geopolitical conflicts.
