Gas Crunch: 47.4 Mmscmd Of Supply Hit, Govt Admits; Says Two LNG Cargoes On Way

India is facing a significant natural gas supply disruption, with a reported shortfall of 47.4 million metric standard cubic meters per day (Mmscmd). According to Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the country currently consumes about 189 Mmscmd. This decline in supply has raised concerns about the potential impact on industries and power generation, which heavily rely on gas. To mitigate the crisis, the government has confirmed that two liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes are en route to the country. The situation highlights ongoing challenges in India's energy sector, particularly in ensuring stable gas supplies amidst fluctuating global markets and domestic demand. As the government continues to explore solutions, stakeholders are urged to monitor the situation closely, given the critical role of natural gas in India's energy mix and economic growth.
