'Go back to Ludhiana…': Supreme Court dismisses ‘AI-drafted’ PIL after cloth trader fails to explain his own petition

The Supreme Court of India recently dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) submitted by a cloth trader from Ludhiana, highlighting concerns over the authenticity of the petition. The Chief Justice, Surya Kant, expressed skepticism regarding the filing, suggesting that the petitioner, who has only completed 12th grade, may have relied on artificial intelligence tools or a ghostwriter to craft the document. During the proceedings, the petitioner struggled to clarify several terms and concepts presented in the petition, raising doubts about his understanding and the legitimacy of the claims made. This incident underscores ongoing debates about the role of technology in legal processes and the need for genuine engagement in legal petitions. While the Supreme Court remains open to hearing genuine public interest cases, this dismissal serves as a reminder of the importance of personal representation and comprehension in legal matters.
