Gunmen kill at least 32 in Nigeria attacks
At least 32 individuals lost their lives in a series of coordinated attacks by gunmen on three communities in Niger State, Nigeria, as confirmed by local police and eyewitnesses. The assaults occurred early on Saturday, targeting Tunga-Makeri, Konkoso, and Pissa in the Borgu area. Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun reported that six deaths were recorded in Tunga-Makeri, with an unspecified number of people reportedly abducted. In Konkoso, local resident Abdullahi Adamu stated that 26 individuals were killed, emphasizing the attackers operated without any security presence. These incidents highlight the ongoing security crisis in northern Nigeria, characterized by violence from Islamic militants and armed gangs engaging in kidnappings for ransom. These recent attacks come on the heels of a devastating incident in nearby Kwara State earlier this month, which resulted in the deaths of 162 people. The deteriorating security situation has drawn attention from the United States, which has criticized the Nigerian government for failing to protect its citizens, especially Christians. This criticism has led to a security partnership between the two nations, including US military operations targeting armed groups within Nigeria. The continuous violence underscores the urgent need for effective security measures in the region.
