India to validate its own AI model for weather forecasting after monsoon

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) plans to validate its own artificial intelligence (AI) model for weather forecasting after the monsoon season. This initiative aims to enhance the accuracy of rainfall predictions by comparing AI-generated forecasts with actual climate data recorded during the season. IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra emphasized that the evaluation will play a crucial role in assessing the performance of the AI model and its reliability in predicting weather patterns. As India grapples with the challenges posed by climate change and erratic weather, developing robust forecasting models is essential for agriculture, disaster management, and planning. The move aligns with global trends where AI is increasingly being integrated into meteorology to improve forecasting capabilities, offering a promising avenue for more precise and timely weather information in the future.
