India–U.S. trade deal nears finish line
India is poised to finalize a significant bilateral trade agreement with the United States, as the country's chief trade negotiator prepares for a trip to the U.S. next week. This visit aims to conclude discussions that have been ongoing for nearly a year, with expectations of a reduction in U.S. tariffs on Indian goods to approximately 18%. Trade Secretary Rajesh Agrawal indicated that this tariff adjustment is anticipated soon, serving as a preliminary step towards sealing the deal. Darpan Jain, Joint Secretary in the Commerce Ministry, will lead the delegation responsible for finalizing the legal aspects of an interim trade pact. This initiative comes after the recent announcement of a new trade framework, indicating a renewed focus on strengthening economic ties between the two nations. As global trade dynamics evolve, both India and the U.S. are keen to enhance their economic collaboration and diversify supply chains, reflecting a mutual interest in deepening their bilateral relationship.
