The ongoing LPG shortage in India, exacerbated by geopolitical tensions in West Asia, has led to a remarkable surge in the demand for induction cooktops. Monthly sales have skyrocketed from approximately 1,000-2,000 units to an astonishing 1-2 lakh units per day. This spike has prompted traders in the Delhi NCR region, a key manufacturing hub, to boost production and coordinate with suppliers to ensure adequate availability. Sanjay Nagpal, President of the Central Radio and Electronic Merchant Association, emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced distribution to prevent consumer panic. He noted that the association is working diligently to prevent black marketing and overpricing, with vigilance teams monitoring the market closely. Retailers, like Raunak Bhasin from Lajpat Rai Market, report that demand is overwhelming, with limited stock available for customers. In response to the LPG crisis, the Indian government has invoked the Essential Commodities Act to prioritize domestic supply for households and essential services, while managing commercial distribution carefully. Although officials maintain that there is no immediate LPG shortage, the situation remains concerning due to the ongoing global energy supply disruptions. The Union Petroleum Ministry continues to monitor developments closely as the nation grapples with these challenges.
