Lunar Eclipse: Tirumala, Other TTD Temples Shut For 10 Hours, Reopen After Purification Rituals

On the occasion of the lunar eclipse, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) temples, including the revered Tirumala temple, were closed for a duration of ten hours to observe traditional purification rituals. The eclipse occurred from 3:20 PM to 6:47 PM, prompting temple authorities to shut the doors nearly six hours prior to the event in line with customary practices. This measure is taken to maintain sanctity and ensure the spiritual well-being of devotees. Following the eclipse, the temples reopened after the completion of the purification ceremonies, allowing devotees to resume their worship. Such practices are rooted in ancient beliefs that discourage temple activities during eclipses, reflecting the deep cultural significance attached to celestial events in Indian spirituality.
