NCERT Apologises For Objectionable Remarks Against Judiciary; Book Withdrawn

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has issued an apology following backlash over a Class 8 textbook chapter that contained remarks deemed objectionable towards the judiciary. Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, expressed strong disapproval of the content, emphasizing that the integrity of the judiciary must not be tarnished or disrespected. The chapter in question discussed judicial corruption, which led to concerns regarding its implications on the perception of the judicial system among young students. In light of the criticism from legal experts and the judiciary, NCERT has decided to withdraw the chapter and is committed to revising the content to ensure it aligns with the principles of respect and fairness towards the judiciary. This incident highlights the ongoing discourse on the portrayal of institutions in educational materials and the need for sensitivity towards the integrity of the judiciary in educational content.
