NMC Asks States To Allocate Internship Slots For Foreign Medical Graduates For 2026-27

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a directive to all State Medical Councils in India to begin the allocation of internship slots for foreign medical graduates (FMGs) for the academic year 2026-27. This initiative aims to ensure that eligible FMGs, who have completed their medical education abroad, can secure practical training opportunities within Indian healthcare institutions. The NMC's request comes in light of the increasing number of FMGs seeking to gain experience and qualifications in India, as well as to address the ongoing demand for medical professionals in the country. By establishing a systematic process for allotting these internship positions based on a specified matrix, the NMC hopes to streamline the integration of FMGs into India's healthcare system, ultimately enhancing the quality of medical services available. This move reflects the NMC's commitment to fostering a more inclusive environment for medical training in India, catering not only to domestic students but also to those who have pursued their education overseas.
