"Our Collective Failure": Raghav Chadha Flags Menstrual Stigma In Rajya Sabha

In a significant address in the Rajya Sabha, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament Raghav Chadha highlighted the pervasive stigma surrounding menstruation in India, emphasizing that the nation cannot claim to be progressive while 350 million women and girls face shame when discussing menstrual hygiene. Chadha pointed out that societal attitudes towards menstruation are outdated and detrimental, urging for open conversations and education to empower women and girls. He stressed the need for collective responsibility in addressing these issues, asserting that it is crucial for both men and women to engage in discussions about menstrual health to foster a more inclusive society. The MP called for initiatives to normalize conversations around periods, advocate for better hygiene products, and ensure that menstrual education is integrated into school curricula. This call to action reflects a growing recognition of women’s health issues in India and the need for systemic changes to eradicate stigma and promote gender equality.
