Pakistan fuel costs surge to record levels; petrol, diesel jump by 55 rupees
In a significant move, the Pakistani government has raised fuel prices to unprecedented levels, with petrol seeing an increase of 55 rupees ($0.20) per litre, now costing 321.17 rupees. Diesel prices have also surged, reaching 335.86 rupees per litre. This adjustment is among the largest in recent years and comes amid ongoing economic challenges faced by the country, including rising inflation and a depreciating currency. The increase in fuel prices is expected to further strain the budgets of households and businesses alike, as fuel costs are a crucial factor in overall living expenses and transportation. Analysts suggest that the hike may exacerbate the inflationary pressures already affecting the economy, potentially leading to a ripple effect on goods and services. This decision follows a series of economic measures aimed at stabilizing Pakistan's financial situation, as the government grapples with balancing fiscal responsibilities and public discontent over rising living costs.
