UK’s visa ballot to reopen for Indians today
The UK will reopen the ballot for the India Young Professional Scheme from February 17 to February 19, 2026, allowing eligible Indian nationals aged 18 to 30 to apply for a visa that permits them to live, work, and study in the UK for up to 24 months. To qualify, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree, possess savings of at least GBP 2,530, and should not have dependent children. While entry to the ballot is free, selected candidates will need to pay a visa application fee of GBP 319 and submit biometrics within 90 days of selection. In total, the UK has allocated 3,000 spots for this scheme in 2026, with most being filled in this February ballot and a second ballot anticipated in July. This initiative reflects a reciprocal immigration arrangement established through the UK-India Mobility and Migration Partnership, signed in May 2021. While the UK uses a ballot system for selecting Indian applicants, British nationals can apply for India’s employment visa year-round. This program is part of broader efforts to enhance bilateral ties, including immigration concessions outlined in a recent trade agreement, which is pending ratification in both nations. The Young Professional Scheme offers a streamlined path for young Indians seeking opportunities in the UK, mirroring the Youth Mobility Scheme available to other participating countries.
