1 lakh motorists stuck in 33-hour jam on Mumbai-Pune expressway to get toll refund: Total crosses ₹5 crore
In a significant development for motorists affected by the unprecedented traffic jam on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced a toll refund for those impacted during the 33-hour blockade on February 3. Over 100,000 vehicles were caught in the congestion, leading to an estimated total refund exceeding ₹5 crore. The MSRDC has confirmed that the refunds will be directly credited to the bank accounts of the vehicle owners who were stranded due to the disruption. This decision aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens experienced by motorists during this extensive delay, which was caused by heavy rainfall and subsequent landslides that blocked the highway. The expressway is a vital route, facilitating travel between two major cities, and such occurrences have raised concerns about infrastructure resilience and emergency preparedness. The swift action by the authorities has been welcomed by the public, highlighting the need for better management during such unforeseen circumstances.
