CEC Gyanesh Kumar reviews poll preps in Assam; new EVM features to improve voter experience

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar recently conducted a review of the preparations for the upcoming elections in Assam. During his visit, he provided an overview of the state's electoral structure, which consists of 126 Assembly constituencies—98 designated as General, 19 reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs), and 9 reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs). Kumar emphasized the importance of enhancing voter experience through new features integrated into Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), aimed at ensuring a smoother and more accessible voting process. The introduction of these advanced EVM capabilities is part of the Election Commission's broader strategy to encourage voter participation and address any concerns related to the voting mechanism. With the elections approaching, the CEC's review underscores the Election Commission's commitment to conducting a fair and efficient electoral process in Assam, which has historically been marked by diverse demographic and political dynamics.
