Days before IRIS Dena sinking, India allowed another Iran ship to dock in Kochi

In a significant development amidst rising tensions between the US and Iran, the Indian government permitted the docking of the Iranian vessel IRIS Lavan at Kochi on March 4. This decision followed a request from Tehran, submitted just days prior on February 28, coinciding with the escalation of hostilities in the region. The docking of IRIS Lavan comes shortly before the IRIS Dena, another Iranian ship, reportedly sank under unclear circumstances. The Indian authorities have maintained that the docking of Iranian ships is in line with international maritime laws and reflects India's commitment to uphold trade relations with Iran. This incident highlights India’s strategic balancing act between maintaining its ties with Iran and navigating the complexities of geopolitical pressures, particularly from the US. As India continues to engage with both Iran and the US, analysts suggest that such maritime interactions may have broader implications for India's foreign policy and its role in regional stability.
