CAQM Revokes GRAP Stage-I Restrictions Across Delhi-NCR as AQI Improves to 'Moderate' Category

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has revoked GRAP Stage-I restrictions across Delhi-NCR after the region's Air Quality Index improved to the 'Moderate' category, bringing relief to residents.
The Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) has revoked the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage-I restrictions across Delhi-NCR following a significant improvement in air quality levels. The AQI in the region has improved to the 'Moderate' category, prompting the Sub-Committee on GRAP to lift the restrictions.
Decision to Revoke Stage-I
The CAQM Sub-Committee on GRAP held an emergency meeting to review the prevailing air quality conditions across the Delhi-NCR region. After a detailed analysis of the AQI data, meteorological forecasts, and ground-level conditions, the committee decided to revoke Stage-I of the GRAP with immediate effect. The decision reflects the notable improvement in air quality that has been observed across monitoring stations in the region.
What is GRAP?
The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is a set of emergency measures activated in Delhi-NCR when air pollution rises above certain thresholds. Stage-I is triggered when the AQI falls in the 'Poor' category (201–300). The restrictions under Stage-I include measures such as enhanced mechanical road sweeping, increased frequency of water sprinkling, and curbs on certain polluting activities.
Current Air Quality Situation
With the AQI now in the 'Moderate' range (101–200), the immediate risk to public health has reduced significantly. Authorities, however, have urged residents to remain cautious and continue monitoring air quality updates. The CAQM has indicated that it will continue to keep a close watch on pollution levels and may re-impose restrictions if the air quality deteriorates again.
Relief for Residents
The revocation of GRAP Stage-I brings relief to the residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region, who had been dealing with poor air quality conditions. Citizens are advised to continue following basic precautions, especially sensitive groups such as children, elderly individuals, and those with respiratory conditions.
