EC issues notices to poll officers in West Bengal

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken action against poll officers in West Bengal after a significant backlog in voter documentation. As the February 14 deadline for uploading documents under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program passed, approximately 115,000 applications remained unprocessed. This prompted the ECI to issue show-cause notices to many of the state's election officials, highlighting concerns about compliance with electoral deadlines. The SIR initiative is crucial for ensuring accurate voter rolls, and the delay could impact the upcoming electoral processes in the state. The ECI's stern stance aims to address the inefficiencies and ensure that all eligible voters are registered ahead of the elections, maintaining the integrity of the democratic process in West Bengal.
